wins long jump in big field at Iowa State Open
Sophomore James Ewer won the long jump in a field of 51
competitors at Saturday's non-team scored Iowa State
University Open in Ames, Iowa.
On his sixth and final jump, Ewer cleared 23-2 -- his
collegiate best and the fifth best jump in school indoor
history. It also ranks fourth best in Division III early
in the season. Ewer also clocked 7.11 in the 60-meter
dash.
His was among several strong January performances for
the Tommies in their first full-scale competition of
2007.
Matt Schroeder took sixth in the pole vault (14-5 1-2);
Matt Boumeester was 10th in the 3,000 (8:45.19); Greg
Dowe was 15th in the 600 (1:15.52); Brian Sames was 10th
in the 800 (1:55.39, just off the 1:55.0 provisional
mark); Joe DeFrance was 14th in the 200 (22.28) and ran
7.39 in the 60-meter dash; Mark O'Connell was eighth in
the weight throw (48-7 1-2); and Kyle Brandon was 12th
in the 3,000 (2:33.90).
