Thomas had seven-top six finishes and four NCAA
Division III indoor provisional qualifying times vs.
strong competition at the non-team scored Iowa State
Open in Ames, Iowa.
The two-day meet concluded Saturday as NCAA Division
I, II and III and NAIA and junior-college teams
competed on the Cyclones' 300-meter indoor track.
Two Tommie indoor school records were broken, and
three other top-four all-time marks or times were
set.
Senior All-American Carson Glad clocked 48.46 for
second place out of 65 entries in the 400 meters. In
the process he broke his own school record of 48.64
set last season,, qualified provisionally for indoor
nationals and just missed the NCAA automatic time
for an oversized track of 48.30.
Carson also ran on the Toms' sixth-place 4x400 relay
in 3:20.31, a time just off the NCAA provisional
best.
Sophomore Matt Schroeder took third out of 21
entrants in the pole vault (15-9) in a career best,
NCAA provisional mark and UST indoor all-time best.
Senior Corey Fusco took second out of 35 runners in
the 1000 meters (2:30.68) in the fourth-best time in
UST history; senior Bryce Beckman placed sixth out
of 50 entries in the 800 (1:53.72) in an NCAA
provisional time and the second fastest Tommie
indoor time ever; and senior Joe Thomas took fourth
of 24 entrants in the high jump (6-9) in a
provisional mark which also is the second best leap
in UST indoor history.
In the 400, after Carson Glad's runner-up finish,
P.J. Theisen was 15th (50.45), Jason Schwietz was
23rd (51.35), Classidy Glad was 25th (51.67), Lewis
Hildebrand was 28th (52.23) and J.J. Kirby was 29th
(52.26).
Other top-30 place winners for UST were Chris Mattke,
20th out of 47 entrants in the 600 (1:16.09); Colin
Sullivan, 27th in the 3,000 (9:13.18); and Will
Hawthorne (4:22.60) and Brock Stepan (4:25.21), 12th
and 16th out of 42 runners in the mile.
In Friday's events, Peter Rosholt placed fifth in
the weight throw in 52-9 1-2, just off the NCAA
provisional qualifying mark.
