Men's track
second in 4x400 at nationals; 10th as team
For the second year
in a row, the St. Thomas men's 4x400 relay team finished as NCAA
Division III runner-up. Carson Glad, P.J. Theisen, Cassidy Glad and
Jason Schwietz ran 3:16.19, just .32 of a second behind UW-LaCrosse.
That foursome broke its own school and MIAC record of 3:16.87 set in
2004.
The eight team points let St. Thomas place 10th with 16 points. Joe
Thomas' second-place finish in Friday's high jump scored the other
eight points.
Theisen also competed in Saturday's triple jump but didn't make the
finals at 44-6 1-4 in his prelims.

NCAA indoor track & field nationals
The MIAC has
qualified 17 men or women athletes -- including nine from St. Thomas
in eight events -- for this weekend's NCAA Division III Indoor
Championships in Bloomington, Ill.
On the men's side, St. Thomas senior Joe Thomas is seeded fourth of
13 in the high jump; senior Carson Glad is seeded 11th of 12 in the
400 meters; senior Cory Fusco is seeded 11th of 12 in the 800
meters; sophomore P.J. Theisen is seeded 13th of 15 in the triple
jump; and the Toms' 4x400 relay team of Theisen, Carson and Cassidy
Glad and Jason Schwietz is seeded seventh of 10.
Thomas is a past national runner-up, and the Toms placed second in
the 4x400 at the 2004 indoor nationals.
The MIAC has one other male qualifier -- St. John's senior Paul
Ferber is seeded seventh of 13 in the triple jump.
On the women's side, St. Thomas junior Kristal Grigsby, a 2004
outdoor national champ, is seeded first of 16 in the long jump and
fourth of 16 in the triple jump. (Kristal's twin sister, Shea'na
Grigsby, a junior at Carthage (Wis.) College, is seeded first of 14
in the 55 hurdles.)
St. Thomas senior Andretta Colley is seeded sixth of 16 in the long
jump and 16th of 16 in the triple jump. The third Tommie qualifier
is senior Brigid Power, who's seeded 11th of 13 in the mile.
St. Benedict has two qualifiers -- junior Patti Clintsman is seeded
13th of 14 in the 55 meters and 10th of 16 in the long jump, and
junior Jenna Wendorff is seeded sixth of 13 in the shot put.
Augsburg has two qualifiers -- junior Tonnisha Bell is seeded second
of 14 in the 55 meters and senior Hannah Dietrich is seeded 13th of
14 in the 800.
Gustavus senior Kristi Schneider is seeded seventh of 14 in the pole
vault; St., Mary's junior Ashley Dingels is seeded 14th of 14 in the
high jump; Concordia junior Angie Pfeiffer is seeded 12th of 14 in
the 400 meters; and Hamline junior Keidra Anderson is seeded 10th of
13 in the 5,000 meters.
