Mathre, Theisen honored in MIAC track

St. Thomas claimed four of six meet awards after its men and women won team titles at last weekend's MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Steve Mathre and Joe Sweeney were chosen MIAC
Indoor Men's and Women's Coach the Year.

UST junior P.J. Theisen, who had a hand in five victories, including the long jump and triple jump, was named Outstanding Male Field Athlete.

Tommie senior Kristal Grigsby was named Outstanding Female Field Athlete after she won the long jump, took second in the high jump and sixth in the triple jump.

The Outstanding Male Track Athlete is Steve Harris of Carleton College, the 5,000-meter and 3,000-meter champ.

The Outstanding Female Track Athlete is Tonnisha Bell of Augsburg, the 55-meter and 200-meter champ.

Grigsby and Bell won similar awards for the 2006 indoor season by the NCAA Central region.
