Track gets three firsts at Carleton Relays
Derek Marks
hit an NCAA provisional mark with a first-place throw of
164-1 in the discus to lead the St. Thomas men's track and
field team in Saturday's Carleton Relays. Marks' season best
of 169-4 record last month ranks fourth best in Division III
this season.
The Tommies placed third of 18 teams. Wisconsin-Eau Claire
(118) was first and St. John's (109.5), UST (105), Minnesota
State Mankato (87), Minnesota-Duluth (85), Hamline (71) and
Gustavus (71) rounded out the top seven teams.
Mark O'Connell hit an NCAA provisional mark in the hammer
throw as he placed third in 172-11. Marks placed sixth in
161-11. O'Connell also placed second in the shot put
(48-10-1-4).
UST also hit an NCAA provisional time in the 4x100 relay in
a winning time of 41.91.
The Tommies took 1-2-4 in the long jump with senior Alex
Weaver (22-1 1-2), James Ewer (21-10 1-2) and Sam Moen (21-5
1-2). In the 100 meters, Ewer also took second (10.86) and
Moen placed seventh (10.99).
In the 1,500 meters, Kyle Brandon (4:05.06) was third and
Matt Boumeester (4:10.27) was sixth. Logan O'Grady placed
seventh in the 5,000 (15:46). Travis Birklid took seventh in
the 110 hurdles (15.49). Brian Sames placed sixth in the 800
meters (1:58.80). In the 200, Chris Bradford (23.75) and
Kyle Jepson (23.85) placed 6-7. Brad Hansen placed fifth in
the pole vault (13-6). In the triple jump, Cameron Roemhildt
(42-7 1-2) and R.J. Strand (42-6) placed 6-7.
UST took fourth in the 4x400 (3:25.32) and the 800-meter
relay (1:32.86), and placed sixth in the sprint medley
