2nd of 16 at Carleton Relays
The St. Thomas
men's track and field team had another solid performance as it
took second behind the Minnesota Gophers at Saturday's 16-team
Carleton Relays. Coach Steve Mathre's team had three firsts
and four seconds and hit three NCAA provisional qualifying
times.
The Gophers scored 207 points to the Toms’ 173.6. MSU-Mankato
(115.5), St. John’s (100.8) and Gustavus (71.6) rounded out
the top five.
The Toms won the 4x400 relay in an NCAA provisional qualifying
time of 3:17.48. They also won the sprint medley relay in
3:34.29; and placed third in both the 800-meter relay
(1:29.34) and 4x800 relay (8:04.08). They took fourth in the
4x100 (43.09).
Cassidy Glad won the 400 in 49.00. His brother, Carson Glad
took second in the 200 in 21.54 with an NCAA provisional time.
P.J. Thiesen took second in the 400 hurdles in 54.05. Joe
Thomas tied for third in the high jump at 6-8 with NCAA
provisional mark and took second in the long jump at 21-6 1-4,
and took sixth in the triple jump at 43-11 3-4. Dave Diercks
and Ryan Collins took 2-3 in the javelin in 172-8 and 162-2.
Matt McLaughlin placed third in the hammer (164-7). John
Schwerkoske (32:32.65), Derek Harmon (33:04) and Bill Kretsch
(33:20.15) took 3-4-5 in the 10,000 meters. Mike Draxton took
third in the long jump (20-5 3-4) and seventh in the high jump
(6-4). Ben Garbe took third in the triple jump (45-4 1-4).
Chris Mattke took sixth in the long jump (20-1 1-2). Steve
Rajewsky placed seventh in the 400 (51.13). Tom hart placed
sixth in the 100 (11.15). Tristan Christ placed eighth in the
steeplechase (9:48.95). Bryan Limmer was seventh in the 800
meters (1:59.35).
The Tommies will have some athletes at Wednesday evening’s
Macalester Twilight; some at next weekend’s Drake Relays;
and some at next Saturday’s St. John’s Invitational.
