Men's Track second at Border
Battle
The St.
Thomas men's track and field team held out some top
performers and still had four firsts and three seconds
and took second place out of four teams at Saturday's
Minnesota-Wisconsin Border Battle hosted by St. Olaf.
UW-Eau Claire took first with 197 followed by UST (140),
St. Olaf (137.5) and UW-Stout (125.5).
Joe DeFrance won the 200 (22.70) and was fourth in the
55 (6.62). Matt Schroeder tied for first in the pole
vault (14-01 1-4). Mark O'Connell won the shot put
(47-11 3-4) and took sixth in the weight throw (48-7
1-2). Cameron Roemhildt won the high jump (6-3 1-4) and
took fifth in the triple jump (42-9).
Chris Bradford took second in the 55 (6.59). Derek Marks
took fourth in the shot put (44-4) and fourth in the
weight throw (51-5 1-2). Alex Weaver was third in the
long jump (21-11), tied for fourth in the high jump
(5-11 1-4); and was seventh in the triple jump (40-11
3-4). Jonah Shermer was third and Brian Pink tied for
fourth in the high jump. Ryan Chapman was third in the
600 (1:17.81). Pat Jager was third in the 400 (51.49).
In the pole vault, Brad Hansen took fourth (13-10 1-5)
and Ben Michel and Ryan Blake shared fifth (13-4 1-5).
In the 55-meter hurdles, Travis Birklid was second
(8.04) and Lem Berry was fourth (8.28). Evan Schwartz
was fifth in the 1000 (2:40.82).
The Toms will enter some athletes in next Friday's U of
M Snowshoe Open on the Gophers' campus.
Distance Medley Relay post NCAA provisional time
The foursome of Kyle Brandon, Greg Dow, Matt
Boumeester and Brian Sames provisionally qualified for
the NCAA in the DMR with a time of 10:03.77 at the Iowa
State Classic.
