Men's Track
has last tuneup at Oles' meet
St. Thomas
used a partial squad and outscored St. John's and host St.
Olaf in Saturday's Meet of the Saints in Northfield.
The Tommies got a 1-2 finish in the javelin by Tore Evenson
(177-7) and Dave Diercks (161-4). They also got firsts by
Andrew Kisielius in the triple jump (45-5); Andrew Hilliard in
the 400 hurdles (53.72); Craig Benson in the 110 hurdles
(15.98); Levi Severson in the 5,000 (15:20.98); and Matt
McLaughlin in the hammer (153-9).
McLaughlin also took fourth in the shot put (43-10) and fourth
in the discus (161-4). Joe Thomas took second in the long jump
(20-7) and third in the triple jump (44-9 1/2). Three Toms
tied for second in the high jump at 6-0 1/2 -- J.J. Kirby,
Mike Draxton and Jarrod Gray.
Other top-five finishers for UST were Jason Schwietz, second
in the 400 (49.00); Corey Fusco, second in the 800 (1:55.97);
Nick Schleder, second in the 400 hurdles (56.98); Roman Cress,
third in the 100 (11.09) and third in the 200 (22.75); Jason
Simmons, third in the 110 hurdles (16.55); Tristan Christ,
third in the steeplechase (9:45.74); Jason Larson (12-6) and
Joe Vansgaard (12-1), fourth and fifth in the pole vault;
Hezbon Mose (11.14) and Joe Putzstuck (11.19), fourth and
fifth in the 100; Will Hawthorne (4:00.68) and Brock Stepan
(4:02.15), fourth and fifth in the 1,500; Ryan Hatteberg,
fifth in the triple jump (42-5); Gabe Skelly, fifth in the
hammer (120-10); Adam Aaro, fifth in the long jump (20-3);
Collin Sullivan, fifth in the 5,000 (16:05.70); and Robert
Ware, fifth in the 400 (49.93).
The Tommies will compete in the MIAC Championships Friday and
Saturday in Moorhead. St. Thomas scored one team point at last
week's MIAC Decathlon with an eighth-place finish by Jason
Larson (5,280). Chris Matke took ninth (5,152).
