Distance
/ Cross Country Coach
Pete Wareham
Pete Wareham has served as the head men’s
cross country coach and distance coach at St. Thomas since
1993. His background as a distance runner includes winning
the 1980 Minnesota State AA individual cross country title
as well as earning NCAA All-American honors six times
during his collegiate career.
Upon graduation from St. Thomas in 1985 he assisted with
the men’s track and cross country teams where the
Tommies captured an NCAA title in cross country (1986) and
earned a 4th place team finish in 1989.
Wareham replaced Larry Russ as the head men’s
cross country coach in 1993.
He has taken seven of his cross country teams to
the NCAA championships and coached five cross country
All-Americans. In
track he has coached middle distance and distance runners
to All-American performances at 800m, 1500m, Steeplechase,
5000m and 10,000. Wareham
resides in Woodbury with his wife Mary Jo and their sons
Nathan and Nick.
