Vault Coach
Kyle Cleven
| The 2002 season will
mark Kyle's 7th year as UST's Pole Vault specialist. Kyle
attended Minneapolis South High School and went on to earn his degree at the
University of Minnesota. |

While coaching high school for nine years, Kyle developed numerous successful
vaulter's and
was able to coach one of his athletes to a Minnesota state title. Since arriving at
St. Thomas, Kyle has developed the most successful vaulting core in the
MIAC. In the
last six seasons, Kyle has led 11 athletes to conference championships and qualified 3 to
the NCAA national championships.
In addition to his structured coaching, Kyle coaches at
and attends various summer camps. He is also coaching a post
collegiate vaulter who
vaults 17'4" and has his sights set on the Olympics.
Kyle is USA Track and Field Level II certified both in the jumps, sprints and
hurdles. Coach Mathre's comments: "We're lucky to have him! He's a
pole vault "nut" - he lives and breaths the event - with his enthusiasm showing
each day in practice. Most of all, he's a teacher of the sport and understands how
to break down a technical event such as the pole vault and make it make sense. As a
result, his athletes understand the event very well and have experienced a great deal of
success.
