David Penchansky is a professor of Hebrew Bible at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. He has been on the faculty since 1989. His research and writing have focused on the books of Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the other so-called wisdom texts. His most recent book, Understanding Hebrew Wisdom: Conflict and Dissonance in the Hebrew Text, introduces those texts to students. Currently, his research concerns the interpretation of the Qur’an. He gave the “New Frontiers in Theology” lecture on “Great Narratives of the Qur’an.” He is active in the newly formed International Qur’anic Studies Association, and participated in their conference in Yogakarta, Indonesia, in 2015.
