Literary Magazine Practicum
Much of the editorial work on Summit Avenue Review is done by students taking ENGL 421 and 422, Literary Magazine Practicum, a fall/spring sequence of two-credit courses, available to students working on the magazine. Participants in this sequence study the history and character of literary magazines from 1912 to the present, learn desktop publishing (InDesign CS3) and Web design, and apply their knowledge to producing the university’s literary and visual arts magazine. The two courses are integrated and mutually dependent on each other; ENGL 421 is an absolute prerequisite for ENGL 422. Completion of the two-semester sequence fulfills the second-level Computer Competency requirement in the core curriculum.
Students interested in the Practicum or with other questions about the magazine should contact Lon Otto at 962-5609 or e-mail him at L9otto@stthomas.edu.
