How to stay involved

One of the best ways to cushion the shock of coming home is to get involved. You had endless new and exciting opportunities when you were abroad, now you have the chance to do something new right here! St. Thomas offers many opportunities through campus clubs, organizations and classes to continue your international experience.

  • Clubs on campus
    • GMSA (Globally Minded Student Association)
    • Language Clubs- French, German, Spanish

  • "Intercambios":  Practice your second language by spending time with an international student. Contact ELS Language Center on campus for more information, (651) 962-5990.

  • Student employment at the IEC, International Admissions, or the Office of International Student Services (OISS), (651) 962-6650.

  • Volunteer through VISION, which coordinates volunteer service immersion trips in the U.S. and abroad, and provides information to students interested in full time volunteer opportunities. Contact Campus Ministry at 651-962-6752 for more information.

  • Get paid to help at orientation for study abroad students in November and April.  Your insights, stories, and advice are invaluable to students preparing to go abroad and most appreciated by the IEC staff.  This is a fun way to put your experience to use and get paid for doing it.  By attending a short training and both orientations students will receive a $100 stipend.  Each fall, the IEC will contact returnees and encourage them to apply to be an orientation leader.  Feel free to contact us beforehand at studyabroad@stthomas.edu if you are interested.
