Peer Advisors serve as para-professional assistants to the study abroad coordinators in the areas described below. All will have responsibilities to serve as "front-line" advisors to students interested in studying abroad, to plan and conduct the day-long orientations each semester, and to help maintain the resource library. Peer Advisors must have spent at least one semester studying abroad. One position is available to begin early summer, and all applicants must be able to participate in training scheduled for the end of August. Each position is 10 hours/week.
Not all positions at the IEC require experience abroad. We also offer Administrative Assistant positions and a Computer Data Entry Assistant position. Contact the IEC if you are interested in any of these positions!
Ten mentors (5 international and 5 U.S.) will be hired each spring to help new students with their fall orientation and adjustment to St. Thomas and life in the U.S. Mentors work in pairs to serve a group of about 10 students. Mentors meet regularly with mentees as individuals and in groups, help with orientation activities, plan intercultural and informational programs, and attend regular staff meetings. Graduate Mentors may be assigned to students in their fields of study. Graduate and undergraduate students encouraged to apply. Contact International Student Services at (651) 962-6650.
