If you are applying to one of the following programs, you may be eligible for their scholarships.  All applications are handled directly through the sponsor program's office.

Multicultural Scholarships

  • University of St. Thomas Multicultural Study Abroad Scholarship
    Available to U.S. students of color or immigrant student to study abroad for a short-term, semester or full-year program.
  • CIEE Robert Bailey Minority Scholarship
    Awards may vary but are usually made in the amount of $500. The award will be applied toward the applicant’s CIEE program fee.
  • IES Diversity Scholarships
    offers awards up to $5000 with IES applicants with minimum 3.3 GPA required.
  • SIT Diversity Funds
    scholarships are offered to students who will enhance the racial, national, and ethnic diversity of our programs.
  • SIT Compton Funds
    Available to undergraduate students participating in SIT programs with environmental, peace studies, or sustainable development themes. Particular emphasis will be given to students representing US minority groups.
  • Augsburg Nation Building, Globalization, and Decolonizing the Mind Scholarship
    Two semester need-based scholarships are available each semester for students of Pan African descent  who will study with a Center for Global Education semester program in Namibia The scholarships cover tuition, room and board charges not funded by the Pell grant. The recipients must cover travel expenses to/from Africa, books, and personal expenses.
  • Augsburg International Business and Global Citizenship scholarship
    Two need-based scholarships are available fall semester for students of Hispanic/Latino descent studying with a Center for Global Education semester program in Mexico. Mexico. Scholarships cover tuition, room and board charges not funded by the Pell grant. The recipients must cover travel expenses to/from Mexico, books, and personal expenses.
  • Augsburg social justice, gender, and the environment scholarship
    Two need-based scholarships are available spring semester for students of Hispanic/Latino descent studying with a Center for Global Education semester program in Mexico. The scholarships cover tuition, room and board charges not funded by the Pell grant. The recipients must cover travel expenses to/from Mexico, books, and personal expenses.

National Scholarships

UST students have been successful in receiving funds from prestigious national competitive scholarship programs for studying abroad.  To assist St. Thomas students in applying for these competitive programs, UST designates a faculty or staff member to serve as the campus contact, promote the program and assist in the application process.  Please contact the International Education Center or your Study Abroad Advisor if you are interested in applying for one of the following scholarships.

  • Bridging Scholarship for Japan
    The Association of Teachers of Japanese Bridging Project awards 100 scholarships annually for American students participating in study abroad programs in Japan.
  • Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals
    This is a scholarship given to students in business, technical, vocational, and agricultural fields, though applicants from all fields are encouraged to apply for a 12-month program in Germany.
  • IIE Freeman Awards for Study in Asia
    This is a scholarship given to students interested in studying abroad in East and Southeast Asian countries.
  • IIE Gilman Scholarships
    This scholarship is open to students who are already receiving federal need-based financial aid.
  • Irish American Scholar Program
    full tuition scholarship available for undergraduate student participating in program in Northern Ireland for a semester or year.  Students are responsible for room and board, books, and personal living expenses.
  • DAAD - German Academic Exchange Scholarships
    Offers scholarships for study and research in Germany.
  • U.S. Fulbright Grants
    Offers research grants or one-year teaching assistantships to graduating seniors to varies areas of the world.
  • NIAF - National Italian American Foundation
    $2,500- $10,000 merit based scholarships to any student majoring or minoring in Italian language, Italian studies, Italian American studies or a related field, or of Italian descent.
  • NSEP - National Security Education Program
    Students who wish to obtain language and culture training in areas considered in short supply by the U.S. government. Excludes Western Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Six weeks of study or longer. Awards are up to $10,000 for semester; $20,000 academic year. Service requirement upon completion.
  • RISE: Research Internships in Science and Engineering - Undergraduate Internship in Germany
    Undergraduate summer internships in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, earth Sciences and engineering working in Germany with monthly scholarship provided.
  • Rotary International
    Local Rotary clubs provide funding for one academic year or semester abroad in another country. Applicants must have completed at least two years of college level coursework.
  • British Council
    Online database for a large number of scholarships to study in the UK.
  • BUTEX Scholarships
    Available to undergraduate students who is studying at a UK university and a member of BUTEX.

St. Thomas students may apply for the following scholarships.  Competition is among other students within the local or greater Mid-West region.  International Education staff can advise you on applying for these scholarships.
