Financial aid is not available specifically for January Term, June Term or summer programs. However, students who have been accepted for participation may qualify for additional loans to be applied to your spring semester (for a January Term abroad) or summer account.
For June or summer programs, you must enroll for at least 6 credits to be eligible for financial aid for other loans.
Students interested in applying for financial aid must meet with a Financial Aid Counselor.
Fees
Program Fee
The Program Fee for January Short-Term Programs includes 4 credits of tuition, airfare, accommodation, some meals, ground transportation and excursions, unless otherwise noted on the individual course descriptions. Average costs of a January Term program will be comparable to on-campus tuition, room, and board plus airfare. Length of program, location, local cost of living, type of program, and exchange rates will all influence the cost.
Off-Campus Study Fee
All students who study off-campus during any term will be charged this $175 fee. The fee, along with the program fee, will be reflected on your student account prior to your program. This fee supports the administration on the University of St. Thomas campus of the program in which you will be participating off-campus.
UMAIE Fee
All students who study off-campus through a UMAIE program in either January or May/June will be charged both the Off-Campus Study Fee ($175) and the UMAIE Fee ($100). These fees will be itemized and reflected on your student account prior to your program and support the administration on the University of St. Thomas campus of UMAIE programs.
St. Thomas offers some short-term scholarships annually. See the Scholarships page for additional information.
Up-to-date budget information for all short-term off-campus programs is available from the International Education Center library and Student Financial Services.
