Faculty International At-Large Travel Grant
Faculty grant applications are invited for international travel to support the Globalization theme of St. Thomas's Strategic Plan. Two $1,000 grants are available with the understanding that a matching amount will be awarded by the faculty member’s respective dean, up to $2,000 total.
The University of St. Thomas will actively promote global engagement in teaching, learning, research and service in an ethical and socially responsible manner. We will accomplish this goal by developing global and intercultural awareness across the university; integrating global knowledge, skills and perspectives into the curriculum; enhancing study-abroad and off-campus learning opportunities; attracting international and ethnically diverse domestic students; and supporting a globally engaged faculty and staff.
All full-time St. Thomas clinical, tenured, or tenure-track faculty are eligible to apply.
Faculty members who have received an international travel or faculty seminar award in the preceding three years are not eligible.
Proposals must be submitted by the application deadline, Monday, November 6, 2017, 4:30 PM to be considered.
All travel must be completed during the current FY18 budget year, concluding by June 30, 2018.
A completed grant proposal consists of the following:
1. A proposal narrative (3 pages maximum) that addresses each of the following:
Overview (brief statement that describes what you intend to accomplish);
Site (where you plan to travel and your rationale for going there);
Outcome (how your proposed travel aligns with the Strategic Plan's Globalization theme);
Experience (what previous experience, if any, you have in the location/s you plan to visit); and
Budget (list of estimated expenses, plus any other funding you will use to support your travel).
2. A copy of your curriculum vitae.
3. A statement of support and approval from your department chair and dean.
Completed proposals should be submitted to the Office at Study Abroad at email@example.com by Monday, November 6, 2017, 4:30 PM. The narrative and curriculum vitae can be e-mailed directly to firstname.lastname@example.org with department chair and dean on copy. The statement of support and approval should be completed initially by the applicant, then forwarded to the department chair and dean.
Completed applications will be reviewed an awards committee, in conjunction with respective deans. Award notifications will be distributed by November 20, 2017.
Selection will be made on the strength of the proposal and its anticipated outcomes, the efficacy and likelihood of success of the project, and the priorities of the respective school or college.
Preference will be given to proposals from faculty who have not had extensive international experience and to faculty who have not previously received grants from the former International Education Center.
Grants are not available for travel to conferences.
No later than one semester after completing travel, awardees agree to submit a brief written report to OSA, summarizing the on-site experience, providing a plan for meeting the outcomes listed in the proposal and next steps. Grant recipients should also plan to participate in an on-campus event, such as a dinner discussion, workshop or presentation.
Applicants may need to fund part of their travel themselves or secure other campus or off-campus funding.
