The Value of a St. Thomas Education: A look into the core curriculum at UST, from an administrator, faculty member, and student.

9:35 a.m.

Introduction to Orientation: A peek at life outside the classroom through performances by the Orientation Leaders.

10:00 a.m.

Student Groups: Meet a dozen other new students and an upperclass student who will lead you through the day and stay in touch throughout the year.

  • UST Cares: Students will go over policies and expectations, rights and responsibilities, and serious topics related to alcohol, sexual violence, mental health, and bias-motivated incidents in groups led by two orientation leaders.
  • Getting Involved: Students will be introduced to a variety of options to get involved on campus as well as learn the importance of active engagement in the UST community, and the greater St. Paul community.

11:45 a.m.

Lunch and Information Fair: Meet and speak with various academic and campus departments, as well as clubs and organizations

1:30 p.m.

Academic Advising: Every student will receive an individual 15-minute appointment with an academic counselor to review their fall schedule. 
ID Card Photos: Every student will take a photo for the official University of St. Thomas student ID card. 
Tommie Tech: Students will learn about the technology resources at UST--Outlook Email App, Blackboard, and Murphy Online.

Academic Expectations: Faculty members review the differences between high school and college and basic expectations for you in the next year.

Career Exploration: Career counselors will discuss the services provided by the Career Development Center to jumpstart your career.

Billing & Financial Aid: A look into the billing and financial aid process at UST, including cost estimation and budgeting.

Living On Campus: Learn about Residence Life, roommate expectations, move-in, etc.

Living Off Campus: Learn about Off-Campus Student Services, campus involvement, parking and transportation, and dining options.

Career Development: Career services and resources at UST, including choosing a major, occupational research, and jobs or internship searches.

Taking Care of Business: An in-depth look into the financial aid process, billing and payment options, student health insurance plan, eXpress Card program, and the bookstore.

Family Transitions: Learn about transitions that occur when your student goes to college - for the student and for the family - as well as about Counseling and Psychological Services.

Health and Wellness: Learn how alcohol, stress, and sleep impacts your student's academic performance and quality of life, as well as resources for students to make healthy choices in college.

3:30 p.m.

UST Cares: Representatives from the Dean of Students, Public Safety, and Campus Ministry discuss the health and safety of our community, including community expectations, policies for students, and resources available.
