Summer Venture in Management Program
A one-week management training program for rising college seniors designed to increase diversity and opportunity in business education. A twenty-year tradition at HBS, this unique educational experience helps participants develop a broader understanding of the challenges business leaders face, the many dimensions of the business world, and the impact they can have on their community and the world through business leadership.

Using the renowned case method of instruction, HBS faculty lead class discussions on current management issues. Participants spend evenings analyzing real-business cases, and use morning study groups and classes to examine and debate their ideas through lively interaction with peers and faculty. This is the life of an MBA student at HBS. The academic program is supplemented by presentations from HBS administrators and alumni who provide information about the impact that an MBA degree can have on their lives and careers.

While attendance in SVMP does not guarantee admission to HBS, participants are encouraged to consider a graduate business degree after completing their undergraduate education. Not being admitted to SVMP does not affect an applicant's admission to the MBA program at a future date. Admission to both programs (SVMP and MBA) is highly competitive.

Typical Deadline in early March; check website for exact timeline.

Research Opportunities

University of Maryland, Summer Research Initiative - College of Behavioral and Social Sciences Summer Research Initiative to Increase Diversity
The goals of the program are to provide rising juniors and seniors an opportunity to increase their interest and learn about doctoral-level training, and provide basic research skills that can be applied in the social, behavioral and economic science fields.  The program has a special emphasis on population groups underrepresented in these fields (i.e., African Americans, Hispanics, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians or other Pacific Islanders).

Students will be provided a meaningful research experience by working with a faculty mentor in one of our nine academic departments: African American Studies, Anthropology, Criminology & Criminal Justice, Economics, Geography, Government & Politics, Hearing & Speech Sciences, Psychology and Sociology.  We will also supplement their research experience with lectures, workshops, and networking opportunities.
