

Fr. J. Michael Byron, Assistant Professor of Systematic Theology, joined with the Rabbi of Mt. Zion Temple in St. Paul and sponsored by the Jay Phillips Center for Jewish-Christian Learning, to speak on the topic of "Celebrating Nostra Aetate" on the 40th anniversary of the documents on non-Christian religions issued by Vatican II. He facilitated a Day of Prayer on February 3 for ACRE (The professional guild of religious educators of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis entitled, "Walking with Faith: A Journey of Hope."

Msgr. Aloysius R. Callaghan, Rector and Vice President, spoke on January 26, at the R. Wayne Kraft Memorial Lecture on "Bishop McShea's Vision . . . 40 Years Later," during Heritage Week 2006, at DeSales University, Center Valley, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Thomas Fisch, Associate Professor of Sacramental Theology and Liturgy, School of Divinity, attended two professional meetings January 5-8, 2006: the Catholic Academy of Liturgy and the North American Academy of Liturgy. In the latter, he participated in the Early History of the Liturgy Seminar.

Dr. David P. Jenkins, Liturgical Music Director, and University of St. Thomas faculty guitarist Chris Kacian (in collaboration with art historian Michelle Nordtorp-Madson) presented a program on February 11 of music by Bach, de Vise, and Lebegue featuring the Cyril F. Rotter Memorial Organ in St. Mary's Chapel, St. Paul, MN.

Fr. Thomas Margevicius, Instructor of Liturgical Theology, successfully passed his comprehensive exams and completed the Pontifical Sacred Theology Licentiate (S.T.L.) degree from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. His field of specialization is Liturgical Studies, and his thesis (a copy of which is available in the Archbishop John Ireland Memorial Library) is entitled, "The Nature of the Liturgical Homily in Vatican II and Post-Vatican II Roman Documents, and an evaluation of Fulfilled In Your Hearing in light of those documents."

Sr. Katarina Schuth, O.S.F., Endowed Chair for the Social Scientific Study of Religion, St. Paul Seminary School of Divinity, conducted a workshop for faculty the the board of trustees of Sacred Heart Major Seminary Sept. 22 in Detroit, Mich. The topic was updating seminary curriculum in light of the new Program of Priestly Formation. Schuth attended the National Catholic Educational Association's Midwest Association of Theological Schools annual meeting Sept. 27-29 in Chicago, where she presented a paper, "Educating Leaders for Ministry." She delivered the annual Dehon Lecture at Sacred Heart School of Theology Oct. 4 in Hales Corners, Wis.; she spoke on the topic of her forthcoming book, "Priestly Ministry in Multiple Parishes."
Sr. Katarina Schuth, O.S.F., Endowed Chair for the Social Scientific Study of Religion, School of Divinity, spoke to a large multinational group of priests responsible for seminary formation in 18 countries. The talk, "Priesthood Today in a Worldwide Context," was given January 24, 2006, at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, Illinois. Later in the week, she spoke at the annual conference of Foundations and Donors Interested in Catholic Activities (FADICA) January 26-29 in Beverly Hills, California. Her address, based on a book she is writing about priests who minister as pastors of more than one parish, was titled "Serving Multiple Parishes: How Long Can This Last?"
