What is the Archbishop Harry J. Flynn Catechetical Institute?
The Catechetical Institute is an ongoing formation resource for Catholic adults of the Archdiocese who wish to deepen their knowledge of the Catholic faith and further their spiritual formation. At the request of Archbishop Harry J. Flynn, The Saint Paul Seminary is overseeing this initiative and has engaged Jeff Cavins as its interim director.
What sort of curriculum will be used by the Catechetical Institute?
The heart of the curriculum will consist of four modules, or series of lessons, on the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. In addition to the lecture-based program, students will have several opportunities during each module to appropriate key themes of the curriculum. While the class lectures will take place on Monday evenings, the personal application of the faith will take place on Saturday mornings. For those who complete all four modules of the Institute curriculum, a certificate of completion will be granted in the name of the Archbishop of St. Paul and Minneapolis.
When will classes begin?
The first module is an eleven-lesson series titled The Creed: The Story in Miniature. Classes will begin on Monday, September 15, 2008. The two-hour sessions begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be held on The Saint Paul Seminary campus at the University of St. Thomas. The three Saturday formation sessions begin at 8:00 a.m. with Mass in St. Mary's Chapel. Below is the schedule:
