Distance Learning Opportunities

The Saint Paul Seminary Shcool of Divinity is pleased to announce two distance learning opportunities.  Beginning fall term 2009, courses will be offered in this new format, which combines on-line learning with two weekend seminar-style sessions at The Saint Paul Seminary campus.

 

Fall 2009

DVSS 501 Old Testament (3 cr.)

Surveys the major genres of the Hebrew Scriptures and the Deuterocanonical books of the Bible, addressing questions of historical and literary context and their theological themes.  Introduces various approaches to the study of the Old Testament and focuses on Catholic views of canon, inspiration and interpretation.  Gives attention to the use of the Old Testament in ministerial settings and as a source for the teaching and worshiping ministries of the Church.

Instructor: Fr. Juan Miguel Betancourt, SEMV, assistant professor Sacred Scriptures

  • On-line instruction component:  September 10 to December 11, 2009.
  • Weekend seminary component: Saturday, September 26 and Saturday, November 14, 2009.
  • Overnight accomodations will be provided for those who prefer to arrive Friday evening or return home on Sunday morning.

 

Spring 2010

DVSS 505 New Testament (3 cr.)

Surveys the major genres of the Christian Testament, addressing questions of historical and literary context and their theological themes.  Introduces various approaches to the study of the New Testament and focuses on Catholic views of canon, inspiration and interpretation.  Gives attention to the use of the New Testament in ministerial settings and as a source for the teaching and worshiping ministries of the Church.

Instructor: Dr. John Martens, associate professor of theology

  • On-line instruction component: February 8 to May 14, 2010.
  • Weekend seminar component: Saturday, February 27 and Saturday, April 24, 2010.
  • Overnight accomodations will be provided for those who prefer to arrive Friday evening or return home on Sunday morning.
