Distinguished Alumni Award (2000)

Father Raymond Monsour (Class of 1963), pastor of St. Mary's Parish in Le Center, along with Monsignor John Sweeney (Class of 1941), retired, are recipients of the 2000 Distinguished Alumni Award from The Saint Paul Seminary School of Divinity. They were selected for their outstanding service as pastors and their serviceMonsignor John Sweeney receives his Distinguished Alumni Award from Archbishop Harry Flynn as Father Raymond Monsour looks onto the broader community.

Father Monsour was honored for his work with the local Hispanic community, the archdiocesan mission in Venezuela, and rural ministry in which he presently serves.

Monsignor Sweeney is known for his long history of working with youth, the establishment of the Catholic Youth Center camp near McGregor, Minn., his role on the seminary faculty, and his contributions to choral music in the archdiocese.

Fellow alumni, relatives, friends and the seminary community gathered April 13 at Mass in St. Mary's Chapel. The awards were presented at a reception following the liturgy. Archbishop Harry Flynn, Father Phillip Rask, rector, and Monsignor William Baumgaertner, chair of the Distinguished Alumni Committee, hosted the event.
