Distinguished Alumni Award (1999)

Fr. John Forliti (Class of 1962) of St. Olaf parish in Minneapolis along with Fr. Damian Zuerlein (Class of 1981) pastor of St. Agnes and Our Lady of Guadalupe parishes in Omaha are recipients of the 1999 Distinguished Alumni Award from The Saint Paul Seminary School of Divinity. They were selected for their outstanding service to Catholic education, parish ministry, social justice and creation of innovative programs to the broader community. Fellow alumni, relatives, friends and the seminary community gathered together on April 22, 1999 at 5:00 p.m. Mass in St. Mary’s Chapel at seminary. The awards were presented to them at a reception following the liturgy.

William Baumgaertner, former rector and chair of the Distinguished Alumni Committee hosted the event. In presenting the awards, Msgr. Baumgaertner reflected on their many gifts and said how very proud the seminary was of their ministries. That they "were doing exactly what we hoped they would do in bringing Jesus Christ to the people through their loving service."
