Faculty Accomplishments

  • In 2010-2011, our 7 full-time sociology faculty published or presented 14 items including 1 textbook, a book chapter, and conference papers.

  • In 2010-2011, 4 students presented papers at professional conferences and 1 student won an undergraduate student poster competition.

  • In 2009-2010, our faculty presented or publsihed 13 items including book chapters, conference papers, and research items.

  • In 2009-2010 4 students presented papers at professional meetings and 1 student received a summer Young Scholar Award.

  • In 2008-2009, 4 students presented papers at professional meetings and 2 students received summer Young Scholar Awards.

  • In 2008-2009 students working under the supervision of Dr. Susan Smith-Cunnien traveled to Mali to assess the social impact of introducing seed potatoes as a food crop.

  • In 2008-2009, our 7 full-time sociology faculty published or presented 15 items including research papers, conference presentations, and teaching materials.

  • In 2007-2008, our 7 full-time sociology faculty published or presented 18 items including books, research papers, teaching materials, and conference presentations.

  • In 2007-2008 5 students presented posters at professional meetings that were mentored by faculty members.

  • Dr. Meg Wilkes Karraker was elected president of Alpha Kappa Delta, an international sociology honor society.

  • Dr. Buffy Smith was recognized with a major university award.

  • In 2006-2007 our 6 full-time sociology faculty published or presented 14 items including books, research papers, and conference presentations.

Department News
Dr. Lisa K. Waldner co-authored a book that was recently published by Allyn and Bacon (2012) titled “Power, Politics, and Society: An Introduction to Political Sociology.”
