A National Conference

Convened by the School of Social Work
The College of St. Catherine and University of St. Thomas

Out of our firm commitment to social justice and by virtue of the Catholic mission of our sponsors, we gather to recognize and celebrate Catholic Social Teaching as a rich resource that informs and strengthens the social justice mission of social work education and that of Catholic higher education. Amata Miller IHM, Ph.D., nationally recognized expert on Catholic Social Teaching, will present ethical guideposts emerging from Catholic Social Teaching which hold the promise of transforming social work.

The College of St. Catherine/University of St. Thomas School of Social Work will share the outcomes of a comprehensive project that integrates Catholic Social Teaching into social work education through faculty development, curriculum enrichment and student engagement. This pioneering innovation transforms social work education to reflect the Catholic mission of our institutions and serves as a model for other disciplines. We are eager to share our experiences and learn from you.

Catholic Social Teaching is the most systematic and thorough attempt by a religious faith to articulate positions on social policy. It provides a first lens to look social justice issues and seriously influences all our position statements. Catholic Social Teaching is a gift to the world and people of all faiths.
