The College of St. Catherine/University of St. Thomas School of Social Work established the Spirituality Institute as a response to the growing awareness that client spirituality and practitioner spirituality are legitimate areas of professional concern.
The mission of the Institute is to explore, develop and support the spiritual dimension of human experience and the ways that professionals can attend to this dimension in their clients as well as themselves.
Such a mission requires an inclusive, respectful approach to a variety of faith traditions and spiritual practices since both practitioners and clients reflect this variety.
The Institute serves practitioners and therapists with various backgrounds and training. Students and educators are also targeted since enlarging the definition of professional practice to include a spiritual dimension has significant implications for professional education.
