Dr. Shedler will discuss the seven essential features of contemporary psychodynamic treatment, the empirical evidence for its benefits, and how it compares to other treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and antidepressant medication.

At the end of this presentation, participants should be able to:

1.Describe seven distinctive features of contemporary psychodynamic therapy.
2.Understand the concepts of effect size and meta-analysis and their role in evaluating the benefits of therapy.
3.Describe the empirical evidence supporting psychodynamic therapy.

Compare effect sizes for psychodynamic therapy with those of other evidence based treatments.
