Resources for Service-Learning

CLIC-Net -- has some service-learning resources through inter-library loan if UST Libraries do not have them.

Campus Compact
Campus Compact is a national coalition of nearly 1,100 college and university presidents dedicated to promoting community service, civic engagement, and service-learning in higher education.  They have many publications, several sample syllabi, and other on-line resources for faculty.

Minnesota Campus Compact
Minnesota Campus Compact works with MN higher education institutions to expand civic engagement in Minnesota.  They have a library of many service-learning resources that can be used on site.  They also sponsor conferences and workshops, publish an electronic newsletter with helpful resources, and provide awards and grants for service-learning/civic engagement projects. The National Service-Learning Clearinghouse
The National Service-Learning Clearinghouse supports service-learning efforts of schools, higher education institutions, communities, and tribal nations.  They offer information, publications,   online resources, a library of service-learning materials, service-learning listservs, and reference and technical assistance services.

National Society for Experiential Education (NSEE) 
A membership association of educators, businesses, and community leaders; NSEE serves as a national resource center for the development and improvement of experiential education programs.

Community-Campus Partnerships for Health
Community-Campus Partnerships for Health promotes health (broadly defined) through partnerships between communities and higher education institutions.  They are a network of over 1,300 communities and campuses that collaborate to promote health through service-learning, community-based participatory research, experiential education program, and other partnerships.

Learn and Serve America
A program of the Corporation for National and Community Service, an independent federal agency created to connect people of all ages and backgrounds with opportunities to serve.

National Youth Leadership Council (NYLC)
A St. Paul, MN based not-for-profit organization that links youth, educators, and communities to redefine the roles of young people in society and supports service-learning.

Association for Experiential Education (AEE)
A nonprofit, professional membership association dedicated to experiential education and the students, educators and practitioners who utilize its philosophy.


Journals

The Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning
The Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning (MJCSL) is a national, peer-reviewed journal of articles by faculty and service-learning educators on research, theory, pedagogy, and issues pertinent to service-learning.

The Journal of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
JoSoTL is sponsored by The Mack Center at Indiana University for Inquiry on Teaching and Learning in association with the Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching.  JoSoTL encourages all instructors to engage in the discussion of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning  and to become involved in the sharing of knowledge and learning about the teaching-learning process. The Journal provides a publication outlet for research in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

International Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (IJTLHE)
The International Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education provides a forum for higher education faculty, staff, administrators, researchers, and students who want to improve post-secondary instruction. The IJTLHE provides broad coverage of higher education pedagogy and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning across diverse content areas, educational institutions, and levels of instructional expertise.

The Journal of College Student Development (JCSD) is a scholarly journal on the study of college students in the field of student affairs.

The Journal for Civic Commitment
A twice-yearly, online journal dedicated to service learning and civic engagement.

The Journal of College and Character
The JCC focuses on moral and civic learning in higher education and is published on the internet by the Center for the Study of Values in College Student Development at Florida State University.

Journal of Higher Education Outreach & Engagement
A forum to promote dialogue about the service and outreach mission of the University and its relationship to the teaching and research missions and to the needs of the sponsoring society.

The Journal on Excellence in College Teaching
The Journal on Excellence in College Teaching is a peer-reviewed journal published at Miami University by and for faculty at universities and two- and four-year colleges to increase student learning through effective teaching, interest in and enthusiasm for the profession of teaching, and communication among faculty about their classroom experiences. The Journal provides a scholarly, written forum for discussion by faculty about all areas affecting teaching and learning, and provides faculty an opportunity to share proven, innovative pedagogies and insights about teaching.
