In Kimberly Vrudny’s “Theo 200” course, students examined the internal coherence of their own belief systems after examining four Christian approaches to matters of faith and doctrine. They worked in the community at Open Arms of Minnesota and Clare Housing, then heard presentations in class by advocates of Minnesota AIDS Project, to consider how Christian compassion and charity, and the social justice tradition within Catholicism, can inform development of faith and doctrine.

In Lisa Waldner's "Soc 210" course, students are preparing to conduct a survey at the request of Open Arms of Minnesota. To inform the questions they develop for the survey, they are learning about the organization by delivering meals and working office shifts.

Students in the Liturgical Choir are working shifts at Open Arms of Minnesota to learn about Christian life lived in community. They are being asked to think about bringing the liturgy of the church to life as spiritual practice, both in worship, and beyond the parameters of a formal mass.

In 2010, students from the University of St. Thomas will deliver 200 food parcels to an impacted community in Guguletu, South Africa, with funds raised through the business program back at UST!
