How do I get to my service site?

VIA has six different service sites, and the answer is different for each of them. St. Marks is close enough to walk to. Harmony Crew, Boys and Girls Club, and Adopt a Grandparent organize carpools with other volunteers. The Waite House Community Center can be reached by bus or carpool, and the MEDS sites can be reached by bus. 

Will VIA give me bus passes or mileage reimbursement?

YES! Your site leader will provide you with a metro to-go card with up to ten rides on it. You can ask for more as you run out.

If you are a carpool driver, keep track of your route, the number of miles, and times you drive. St. Thomas will reimburse up to 54 cents a mile. This information can be handed in at the front desk of the Center for Ministry, ASC 207. 

How do I apply?

VIA has started online applications! Visit our "Our Sites" page, and follow the link to the application. Be sure to fill it out by the deadline so you can start volunteering as soon as possible. 

I missed the application deadline, can I still apply?

We are glad you are interested in VIA! We start volunteering soon after the application deadline, so we do not accept applications a week after the deadline. If the deadline passed less than seven days ago, email Camile Mulcahy or Megan Huggett with the site you would like to volunteer at and fill out the application.
