Distinguished Educator Award & Program Honoring Dr. Joseph Fitzharris: "Colonel Sibley, the 3rd Minnesota, and the Dakota Uprising of 1862"
Event Description: This program will begin with the presentation of The Selim Center’s Annual Distinguished Educator Award to Dr. Joseph Fitzharris in recognition of his many contributions to lifelong learning for persons age 50-plus through the Center. The program this evening will feature a lecture by Dr. Fitzharris on “Colonel Sibley, the 3rd Minnesota, and the Dakota Uprising of 1862”. The evening will conclude with a dessert reception in the lobby following the program.

Event Speaker/Distinguished Educator Award Winner: Dr. Joseph Fitzharris is a retired Professor of Military History at the University of St. Thomas, where he taught courses on American Military History, the Civil War, and World War II. He has published on both wars. The Great Plains Regional Coordinator for the Society for Military History, he received the Simmons Memorial Service Award for service to the SMH. He is active in both the Twin Cities Civil War Round Table and the Dr. Harold C. Deutsch World War II History Roundtable.
Event Cost: $20.00 per person Note: All Center Donors of $50.00 or more between July 1, 2012 and April 30, 2013 will receive an invitation with a gift of two admissions to this event. (Invitations will be sent to Center Donors beginning in January 2013 and as donations are received through April 30. Qualified donors should not complete a registration form for this event.)
