Dr. Jean Giebenhain
Professor of Psychology Clinical, Licensed Psychologist Academic History B.S., College of St. Catherine, 1977 M.A., University of Mississippi, 1981 Ph.D., University of Mississippi, 1985 At St. Thomas since 1983 Dr. Giebenhain frequently teaches Psychopathology, Clinical Psychology, Theories of Counseling since her first year at St. Thomas in 1983. Her research interests include trauma, adoption, English as a Second Language, and ritual in therapy. She seeks research assistants primarily for literature reviews on the above, as well as seasonal affective disorder (SAD). "Teaching, and talking 1:1 with students are two of my favorite activities! Feel free to stop by and chat any time! In addition to my work at UST, I maintain a small private clinical practice, working primarily with women with significant trauma in their history. Much of the work I do is pro bono, for women who could not otherwise afford mental health care. "Because of my experience adopting three older children from India (ages 7, 10 & 12 when they arrived in the US), I naturally have become interested in the issues faced by older, international adoptees and their families. This experience has also increased my awareness of the difficulties immigrant/refugee families face in navigating our educational system. I am passionate about pursuing ways to improve educational services for ESL students." |
