The University of St. Thomas

Letter From Director

From the Director of Training

Dear Prospective Intern Applicant,

Sarah Armstrong, Director of TrainingWelcome to the University of St. Thomas Personal Counseling and Career Development Center's internship Web page. I hope that you will enjoy browsing through our materials, and will find all the information you need to help make the decision about whether or not our program would be a good fit with your needs.

Our internship site was founded in 1992 and fully accredited by APA in 1995. In 2003 we received our second re-accreditation, with our next site visit scheduled for 2010. Our staff has a strong commitment to training, diversity and multiculturalism, and our mission is to provide a broad-based sequential and developmental training experience that integrates the art and science of psychology. We believe people learn and work best in a supportive, collegial atmosphere; therefore we provide a nurturing environment in which we expect interns to stretch, take risks and grow into confident, competent, ethical psychologists who are able to empower clients and colleagues. Interns characterize our strengths as providing both excellent supervision and a balanced learning environment in which they can set their goals and objectives. They enjoy choosing a variety of outreach and consultation activities, learning to provide supervision to practicum students, in addition to offering services in personal, career, group counseling and assessment. Issues of diversity, multiculturalism, and professional ethics permeate all aspects of our work.

Hear the staff describe what they think it is really like to work here.

Should you have any questions about our program, please do not hesitate to contact me at (651) 962-6780.

All the best to you as you embark on your internship selection process!

Sarah Armstrong, M.B.A., Psy.D., L.P.
