Section 7:
Other Services
7.1 – Vehicle
Jump-Starts
The Department of
Public Safety and Parking Services has a jump-start service for vehicles parked
on or within a six-block radius of campus. This service is available on a
first-come, first-served basis as time or weather permits. Anyone parked on the
St. Paul campus that does not have three or more outstanding parking citations
can get a free jump-start; however, they must complete a waiver releasing the
university from liability. Public Safety officers may elect, but are not
required, to provide such service, particularly if their other patrol and/or
emergency-care duties are put at risk. If you have three or more outstanding
citations, these must be paid before the service will be attempted.
If UST Public Safety
officers are unable to assist you or if their attempts fail, a local service
station will be called for you, but you will need to pay the private vendor for
the cost of the service provided. Call the St. Paul UST Department of Public
Safety and Parking Services at (96)2-5100, or the Minneapolis UST Department of
Public Safety and Parking Services at (96)2-4100.
7.2 – Vehicle
Lock-Outs
St. Paul Campus
If you lock your keys
in your vehicle on or within a six-block radius of campus, you may contact the
Department of Public Safety and Parking Services and an attempt will be made to
open your vehicle; however, a waiver needs to be signed releasing the university
from liability. Proof of ownership and proper identification will be required.
If you have three or more outstanding citations, these must be paid before the
service will be attempted. If an attempt is made and Public Safety officer(s)
cannot gain access, a call can be placed to a local lock service for you but you
will be responsible to pay the cost to the private vendor for the service
rendered. Public Safety officers may elect, but are not required, to provide
such service, particularly if their other patrol and/or emergency-care duties
are put at risk.
Minneapolis Campus
If you lock your keys
in your vehicle on or within a one-block radius of campus, you may contact the
Department of Public Safety and Parking Services and an attempt will be made to
open your vehicle; however, a waiver needs to be signed releasing the university
from liability.
7.3 – Rideshare
Permit Program (St. Paul Campus Only)
Two or more people,
with a limit of eight, who have purchased UST parking permits, may apply for a
free Rideshare permit. This permit allows the vehicle displaying the permit to
park in designated Rideshare spaces. These premium spaces are set aside in Lots
G and H.
7.4 – Services and
Safety Tips
Cameras
Surveillance cameras
have been installed in the parking ramps, and in many of the lots, on both
campuses, but we still need your eyes. If you see something suspicious, please
contact the Public Safety and Parking Services Department at (96)2 – 4100
(Minneapolis Campus), or at (96)2 – 5100 (St. Paul Campus). In the event of an
emergency, please contact us at (96)2 – 5555.
Patrols
Officers make
frequent patrols of all the parking lots and buildings on both campuses. If you
see a vehicle parked illegally, you may contact the Public Safety and Parking
Services Department at (96)2 – 4100 (Minneapolis) or at (96)2 – 5100 (St. Paul)
to request enforcement. Make a not of the vehicle make and license plate if
possible.
Escorts
Escorts are available
from Public Safety officers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. An escort can be
requested by contacting a Public Safety office.
