What to do during a utility failure:

In the event if a utility failure (water, electric, heat) immediately call the Public Safety Department at (96)2-5100. Be prepared to give:

  • Building Name:
  • Floor
  • Room Number
  • Nature of Problem
  • Person to Contact and telephone extension:

St. Thomas does have emergency power. However, emergency power is not in every building and some of the emergency power is limited in duration. In the event of an electrical power failure, the Public Safety Department, in cooperation with the Physical Plant Department, will determine the nature of the problem and will determine whether or not any building needs to be evacuated.

The campus-wide telephone system has a limited amount of emergency power and may or may not be directly affected. In the event the telephone system becomes inoperative, there are emergency phones that may be operational. These phones are marked "POWER FAILURE" on the number plate and can be found at the following locations.
