Section 4: Permit Policies

4.1 – Displaying your Parking Permit

Parking permits must be displayed on the inside rearview mirror.  To properly display the permit, it must hang from the rearview mirror facing out so that the permit number is visible from the outside of the vehicle.  Failure to hang your permit or displaying it improperly may result in a fine.

On the St. Paul campus, permits are required in resident, commuter and faculty/staff lots beginning at 6 p.m. on the first Sunday following the start of the fall semester, during J-Term, and immediately at the start of spring semester.  Prior to permits being required, all other violations are enforced.  “No overnight parking” in nonresident lots will be enforced beginning at 2 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5th, 2007.

4.2 – Lost or Stolen Permit

Lost or stolen permits must be reported to the Parking Services Office.  Should a replacement be desired, the replacement will require a service fee of $40 (prorated to $20 for evening permits or for semester-only permits, or after January 28, 2008).  The service fee will be refunded if the permit is found within one month of replacement permit purchase.

It is very important that lost or stolen permits be reported as soon as possible after the loss is noticed.  The permit holder is responsible for any and all parking fines issued to any vehicle on which the registered permit is displayed.  Should the lost permit be found, return it to the Parking Services Office immediately, as use of this permit may result in an immobilization of the vehicle, confiscation of the permit, and a citation.  Permits reported lost or stolen automatically will become university property.

Once notified of a lost permit, Parking Services will spot-check the lots to determine if someone else is using the permit.  Always secure your vehicle when you leave it unattended.

4.3 – Resale of Permit and/or Contract

Permits may be sold only by the Department of Public Safety and Parking Services and may not be offered for resale or exchange by anyone.

4.4 – Responsibility of Parking Fines

With permits both transferable from vehicle to vehicle and otherwise, it is important to note that the owner of the permit will be held responsible for all fines accrued by the use of their. Any unpaid citations and fees may be charged to the permit owner’s student account, without their prior consent. Persistent violations may result in parking privileges being revoked.
