Over the course of five years, working in four districts with over eighty students (grades 3 through 8) and approximately 25 teachers, Project2Excel has several research aims. They include:
a) identification of twice exceptional learners,
b) ongoing expert training and workshops for experimental classroom teachers,
c) effective development of a teacher 'toolkit' consisting successful gifted curriculum accomodations in use with twice exceptional students, for continued broad educator use,
d) the development of six courses that culminate in twice exceptional education certification for all participating experimental educators, and
e) creation of a resource manual, workshops with specialists, and on-going training/support for parents of both control and experimental parents of 2E students.
This longitudinal study employs semi-annual testing (of areas such as intelligence, motivation, self concept, etc.), observations of student learning in experimental and control classrooms, parent workshops, student narratives, and teacher trainings in order to provide a comprehensive and truly meaningful experience for all participants in the project.
The aim of this research is to expand on the limited information provided by previous studies on twice exceptional students, and to improve these students' educational experiences as a result of the adapted learning techniques. Previous research done on twice-exceptional issues can be found under the tabs on the left.
