St. Thomas is at the center of the thriving Twin Cities metropolitan area, with ideal locations for its campuses along the Mississippi River in St. Paul and in the heart of downtown Minneapolis. The president’s residence, Morrison House, is located on the St. Paul campus on Summit Avenue, a historic boulevard in a beautiful residential area that leads from the university’s main campus to the St. Paul Cathedral. From Morrison House it is a short walk west to the Mississippi River and to miles of walking and bike paths that connect the Twin Cities and their western suburbs. Within two miles of campus are multiple commercial crossroads with shops, restaurants, movie theaters, grocery stores and health care providers. Many of these amenities, as well as elementary and secondary schools, are within walking distance of campus.
Minnesota is routinely ranked as one of the best states to live, and the Twin Cities have an active business, arts and cultural scene, with nationally and internationally recognized companies, theaters, music ensembles, museums and architecture, including 19 Fortune 500 companies, four of Fortune’s 50 “most admired” companies in the world, the Guthrie Theater, Children’s Theatre, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Weisman Art Museum, Minnesota Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and The Minnesota Opera.
There are numerous opportunities for outdoor recreation in all seasons as well as easy getaways to recreational areas near Minnesota’s many lakes, parks and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness along its northern border with Canada.
