ST. THOMAS SEEKS A NEW PRESIDENT
The University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, seeks an exceptional leader to become its 15th president.
St. Thomas is a private, Catholic, liberal arts university with baccalaureate, professional and doctoral programs. As the largest private college or university in Minnesota and one of the largest and oldest Catholic colleges or universities in the United States, St. Thomas seeks to form leaders with a strong moral core who will advance the common good through professional and personal contributions to their communities locally, regionally, nationally and globally.
St. Thomas is a teaching university that emphasizes active, inquiry-based learning, service and community learning, and faculty research that fosters student learning. Under the leadership of its two most recent presidents, each serving more than 20 years, St. Thomas has achieved a strong reputation and recognition among the higher education community and is nationally recognized for serving its region with excellence. The university has grown considerably in the size and strength of its student body, facilities, academic program, faculty and staff. In October 2012, it will celebrate the completion of its $500 million Opening Doors capital campaign. The next president of St. Thomas will be committed to the university’s convictions and its mission to educate students “to be morally responsible leaders who think critically, act wisely and work skillfully to advance the common good.” He or she will be a forward-thinking, inspirational and authentic leader with a track record of successful administration in higher education or in a major corporation, government agency or other complex organization, superior communication and interpersonal skills, unquestioned integrity, an earned terminal degree, and a deep understanding of and commitment to Catholic higher education. University bylaws stipulate that the president must be a Roman Catholic.
The new president will join the university at an ideal time. With its strong legacy and remarkable resources, St. Thomas is poised to spring forward in a significant way. It has tremendous potential to contribute meaningfully beyond its current scope and to expand its influence. The Board of Trustees recently has articulated the strategic directions for the next phase of the university’s evolution. The new president will play a seminal role in determining how St. Thomas will move forward—by honing the university’s vision for its future, advocating for that vision both internally and externally, and effectively managing available resources to turn the vision into reality—and will have an unparalleled opportunity to make a personal mark on the future of this outstanding, successful institution.
