Each year the Department of Political Science awards G. W. C. Ross Scholarships to Political Science majors who have demonstrated excellence in their academic studies. These awards, made possible by an endowed fund named after the late G. W. C. Ross, a long-time department faculty member, are given in the major's junior year for use in the senior year. Those students selected by the Political Science faculty will have demonstrated academic excellence as measured by their high G.P.A. In the past recipients typically have had G.P.A.s of 3.4 and higher.
There are two kinds of scholarship awards:
• Majors who are receiving financial aid are awarded a $2,500 scholarship
• Majors who do not receive financial aid are awarded a $1,000 scholarship
These amounts are deducted from St. Thomas tuition charges in the students' senior year.
