Use of Tobacco Policy
Medical evidence clearly shows that smoking is harmful to the health of both smokers and nonsmokers. The findings of the U.S. surgeon general emphasize the harmful effects of second- hand smoke and also have documented the harmful effects of chewing tobacco.
Therefore, in an effort to provide a healthy, comfortable and productive environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors, the University of St. Thomas focuses on a smoke-free environment. Effective Sept. 1, 1993, smoking and chewing of tobacco are prohibited in all buildings on the university's St. Paul and Minneapolis campuses and in all university-owned vehicles.
