Mike EkernDirector of Photography
As head of the photography department Mike is in charge of general Photo Services policy, camera rentals, and general operation of the university's image management system (including training). Mike also shoots for a variety of clients and publications.
A 2002 summa cum laude graduate of St. Thomas (B.A. in print journalism), Mike joined Photo Services in 2003 and took over as Director of Photography in 2007. Prior to working at St. Thomas he freelanced for a variety of clients including the Associated Press and Getty Images. His work has been published in Time, the Star Tribune, the Pioneer Press, the Detroit Free Press and on WashingtonPost.com among others.
Mark BrownStaff Photographer
As staff photographer Mark shoots for a variety of clients and publications. Mark also oversees the department's student photographers.
He transitioned to higher education communications after earning a MS in journalism at the University of Oregon and working for several years as a photojournalist at a daily newspaper in California. Mark has worked as a freelance and contributing photographer for various clients, and his work has appeared in national and regional news publications and websites.
Mark JensenVisual Asset Client Liaison/Photographer
Mark is responsible for archival film scanning (in conjunction with Special Collections), producing photo prints, and researching and retrieving images from the photo catalog. He also shoots images for a variety of clients and publications.
He holds an MFA in Visual Communications and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BFA in Photography/Film and a minor in sculpture. He has conducted workshops and taught photography, drawing, and the history of photography at various colleges and universities. Mark also curates and hangs the work of regional artists in Terrence Murphy Hall on the Minneapolis campus.
