Dr. Kevin Bales is Professor of Contemporary Slavery at the Wilberforce Institute for the Study of Slavery and Emancipation at the University of Hull, in England. Widely recognized as the world’s leading expert on contemporary slavery, he is the author of Disposable People: New Slavery in the Global Economy (University of California Press, 1999) and Ending Slavery: How We Free Today’s Slaves (University of California Press, 2007). His latest book, Blood and Earth: Modern Slavery, Ecocide, and the Secret to Saving the World will be published on January 19 by Random House.
