Delays in visa applications expected during winter break

Students and scholars who are planning to travel outside the U.S. during winter break and who need to apply for a new U.S. visa to return to Minnesota are advised to expect significant delays in the processing of visa applications.

U.S. Embassies and Consulates will be closing for several days during the holiday season. Security clearances, name checks and other background checks will take longer and the U.S. government is advising students and scholars to consider postponing their travel until the summer if a new U.S. visa is needed to return. Please take this into consideration when making your travel plans.

Contact OISS if you have specific questions about your situation, oiss@stthomas.edu or tel: 651-962-6650.
