Personal Counseling announces four free counseling groups for fall

Participation in counseling groups is a great way for students to feel more connected to others, explore issues and gain insight, learn new skills and help others to grow.

The Personal Counseling and Testing Office announces the following free counseling groups for fall semester (all groups meet in Room 356, Murray-Herrick Campus Center:

  • Leadership Development and Personal Growth Group
The goal of this group is to promote personal development through fostering insight and sharing personal experiences, and is intended for students who are interested in becoming more effective at motivating others, inspiring cooperation and establishing strong interpersonal relationships. The group’s focus will be on self-related topics. You do not need to be in a formal leadership role to participate. The date and time of group meetings are yet to be determined. Contact Brandon Sullivan or Steve Maurer, (651) 962-6780, for more information and a brief intake interview.

  • Grief Support Group
The goal of this group is for students, faculty and staff to be able to confidentially share their feelings related to experiences of grief and loss. Meet with others in a supportive atmosphere and gain a better understanding of how to cope when going through emotionally difficult times. This ongoing group meets from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesdays. Contact Sarah Armstrong or Brandon Sullivan, (651) 962-6780, for more information and a brief intake interview.

  • Body Image Group
This is a group for both male and female students who are interested in improving body image. The goal of the group is to help students accept their bodies and, in turn, themselves. Date and time of group meetings are yet to be determined. Contact Colette Kuhn or Kelly Petrino, (651) 962-6780, for more information and a brief intake interview.

  • Alcohol and Family Issues Group
The goal of this group to provide an opportunity for students coming from households where there is alcohol or substance abuse to process their experiences, gain effective coping strategies and gain support in maintaining their own health and wellness. The group will meet from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesdays. Contact Sara Armstrong or Stephen Glomb, (651) 962-6780, for more information and a brief intake interview.
