Social Security
Trip
Attention all students who are in need of a social security
card, we are going to be organizing two trips this week to take
students to the Social Security office downtown St. Paul. The two
dates and times are:
Tuesday, October 4
2:00PM
Meet in OISS
Thursday, October 6
8:00AM
Meet in OISS
Please sign-up at OISS or email us back at oiss@stthomas.edu so we can have a good idea of how many students are coming and whether we should drive or take the bus there.
Our return will depend on the
processing time for each student. It has been taking about
15-20 minutes per person. If you need to come back earlier, you
are welcomed to take the city bus back to campus after your
appointment so you do not have to wait for others to finish.
What you need to bring with
you:
- Passport
- I-94 card
- I-20
- check-stub from
first paycheck (please note, we do not need to have the
actual check - you can cash this. We just need the check-stub
half for this appointment) If you do not have a paycheck yet,
have your employer write a letter on official letterhead stating
you have a job on campus.
- letter from OISS
verifying your status (complete
a request for this letter if you do not have one yet.
Indicate "SSN" on the Other reason field)
- the completed
Social
Security application - there is
no fee for this application.
After we help students process
social security letters, our next trip will be to get Minnesota
Identification cards. Await more information in newsletter
about this trip. Call OISS if you have questions.
