Summer Options for F-1 and J-1 Students
Summer is an optional term except for new international
students. New F-1 and J-1 visa students
who begin their studies at the
University of St. Thomas in the summer must enroll in at
least six credit hours
(undergraduate students) or three credit hours
(graduate students) to maintain their full-time student
status.
Summer term at the University
of St. Thomas begins on May 19 or when all of your final papers,
exams and projects are completed for the Spring Semester.
Summer term ends for all students on Tuesday, September 4, 2007.
Continuing
F-1 and J-1 visa students have the following options during the
Summer term:
- Enroll in courses at the
University of St. Thomas
- Enroll in courses at a
different university or college as a visiting student
- Do not enroll in courses at
St. Thomas or another university or college
- Work part-time or full-time
on the University of St. Thomas campus
- Work part-time or full-time
off campus with Curricular Practical Training (CPT) if you have
been in F-1 status for at least 2 academic semesters
- Travel home, to a different
country, or a different U.S. state (have your I-20 signed for
travel on page 3 before leaving the U.S.)
- Any combination of the
above options
