PeaceJam
Conference If you would like to be a
PeaceJam Mentor, or someone who would, here's all the information
you need...
The PeaceJam Conference will take place April 14 from 8am-9pm,
and April 15 from 8am-4pm with Dr. Shirin Ebadi, 2003 Nobel
Peace Prize Laureate from Iran. Over 250 high school youth will
attend the conference and we need your help to make it work.
PeaceJam Mentors are paired up to guide a group of 10 high school
students through 5 "family group" meetings. During these times you
will build community, reflect on presentations or prepare for the
next conference event. During the rest of the weekend you will
participate in the conference. Registration and all meals are free
for PeaceJam Mentors.
In order to be prepared to lead family groups we have training
opportunities that must be completed to be a PeaceJam Mentor.
The first training will provide an overview of PeaceJam, the youth
curriculum, and the life of the Nobel Laureate. You may choose
between two sessions:
Tuesday April 10 <or> Thursday, April 12 Both are held from
11:45am-1:30pm in OWS LL54 (see campus maps at -
http://www.stthomas.edu/campusmaps/stpaul.asp)
The final training will be Friday, April 13 from 2pm-9pm in OEC 449.
At this training you will learn each section of the conference
schedule, get training on family group leadership and team games,
use role play and demonstrations to anticipate the needs of your
group, and build a community of mentors, PeaceJam national staff,
youthrive staff and conference MC's.
We recognize that this is a substantial commitment of time, and
promise to use your timje well to make sure you feel prepared to
take a leadership role in this important event.
If you are ready to commit to being a PeaceJam Mentor, please email
Mike Klein at
mcklein@stthomas.edu and indicate which of the two first
trainings you will attend.
Please also email with any questions or concerns, and forward this
email to anyone you believe should be a PeaceJam Mentor.
Be peace,
Mike Klein
