Gregory
Marzolf Jr Award to UST commuter student
The Gregory Marzolf Jr Award is given annually to a University of
St. Thomas commuter student who, through dedication and disciplined
application, has exercised talents and abilities in an extraordinary
manner. Through the exercising of these talents and abilities, the
commuter student has overcome significant obstacles to achieve
excellence in academics, co-curricular activities and community
pursuits. Note: A commuter student is defined as a student who does
not live in university housing.
This award is in honor of Gregory Marzolf, Jr. who was a student at
the University of St. Thomas from Fall 1998-Fall 1999. He had
Muscular Dystrophy, a disease that causes progressive muscle
weakness until the muscles are gradually lost. He made many
significant contributions to the St. Thomas community as an
orientation leader and mentor in the Commuter Center. Though he
died in April 2000 his legacy of service to our community still
lives on.
The Commuter Ally award is an opportunity to recognize a person,
department, office, or student organization for helping a commuter
student succeed at UST. This is a good way to recognize someone and
thank them for making this campus as welcoming and inclusive as
possible for all students.
To nominate someone, pick up a nomination form from the Commuter
Center in Lower Level MHC, fill it out, and turn it in along with a
letter addressing the candidate’s contributions. Nominations are due
to the Dean of Students Office (MHC 101) or the Commuter Center no
later than Thursday, March 27th.
The recipients of these awards will be recognized at the Spirit of
St. Thomas Ceremony on Thursday, April 17 in MHC 304.
